differences in philosophy and methods between the fields of psychology and genetics. The more recent interest in GxE interaction in the gene finding world likely stems from the slow progress in identifying specific genes involved in psychiatric traits, and the failure of genetic methods to date to account for a substantial portion of the heritability of psychiatric conditions, rather than from a deep appreciation of environmental influence. Much of the GxE interaction work in large gene-finding studies is moving forward without the involvement of psychologists or other social scientists with expertise in studying the environment.
