Carriers of the A allele who did not endorse adverse childhood experiences reported a mean of 3.6 (SD=3.3) AUD symptoms, whereas those who endorsed adverse childhood events reported a mean of 6.3 (SD=2.9) symptoms, much closer to the mean symptom counts of noncarriers (6.3 (SD=3.5) and 7.0 (SD=3.3) for unexposed and exposed groups, respectively. An independent t-test comparing childhood adversity-exposed versus unexposed carriers of the protective allele revealed a statistically significant group difference (t(90)=3.16, p=0.002).
