In addition, alcohol dependence has been shown to adversely affect several cognitive functions, including stimulus discrimination (Porjesz et al., 1987), response inhibition (Cohen et al., 1997; Kamarajan et al., 2005a; Kamarajan et al., 2005b), and semantic processing (Ji et al., 1999; Maylor et al., 1987; Williams and Rundell, 1984). These abnormalities observed in ERP components reveal cognitive impairment in alcoholics [For a detailed review see (Porjesz and Begleiter, 2003)].
