This study was not officially pre-registered nor were any a priori power calculations completed to determine sample size as this was an exploratory study. However, the number of biological replicates was determined from previously powered RNA-sequencing studies which used sample sizes of 2–6 per group (Boisvert et al. 2018; Li et al. 2017; Tanaka et al. 2013; Zhang et al. 2017) and proteomic/phosphoproteomic studies which used sample sizes of 3–4 per group (Boza-Serrano et al. 2018; Gonzalez-Lozano et al. 2016; Kohtala et al. 2016; Sharma et al. 2015).
