The candidate miRNA eQTLs were followed up in the replication cohort of 40 subjects, where three independent miRNA eQTL signals were replicated (p-value<0.05 and directionally consistent effect) in both abdominal adipose tissue ( Figure 2A–C , Figure 3 , Table 1 ) and gluteal adipose tissue ( Figure 2D–F , Figure 4 , Table 2 ). We note that hsa-miR-1255a has a significant eQTL signal in both abdominal and gluteal adipose tissues ( Table 1 and 2 ) and was not found to be differentially expressed between the depots (Table S1).
