Dermatitis herpetiformis is regarded as an alternative phenotypic expression of gluten-sensitive enteropathy, with little known about the genetic contribution to this phenotype. Microscopic colitis may coexist with celiac disease and is a frequent cause of persistent diarrhea in such patients.
