More subtle confounds can arise from image distortions specific to each individual MRI scanner, which can result in measurement differences despite otherwise similar image parameters (Jovicich et al., 2006). A strength of the NIMH investigation has been the stability of the MRI platform and acquisition parameters throughout the duration of the study.
