Sample characteristics are described in Table 1. Out of 518 SC subjects, 23.4% had DD (SC and SUD). Of 178 female subjects with SC, 7.9% had SUD comorbidity and out of 340 male subjects with SC, 31.5% had comorbid SUD. The proportion of subjects who reported a history of depressive syndrome or episode was large among those who had SUD. Regardless of history of SUD, the majority of subjects had never married.
