Text

The information presented here was generated from a prospective evaluation of two generations of participants in the San Diego Prospective Study. Multiple prior studies had demonstrated significant correlations to maximum drinks and/or alcohol problems for lower LRs as measured by alcohol challenges, SRE-5, and SRE-T (e.g. Daeppan et al., 2000; Eng et al., 2005; Pedersen & McCarthy, 2009; Quinn & Fromme, 2011; Ray & Hutchison, 2009; Schuckit & Gold, 1988). In addition, several papers reported even more robust correlations between SRE-3– and SRE-H–based lower LRs and adverse alcohol outcomes in both cross-sectional and prospective paradigms (Ray & Hutchison, 2009; Schuckit & Smith, 2017). The current results expand upon those earlier reports and are the first to simultaneously directly evaluate alcohol outcomes associated with 5 measures of the low level of response (LR) to alcohol, including an alcohol challenge and 4 scores from the Self-Report of the Effects of Alcohol questionnaire.
