Chunk #27 — Mature Network Architecture Develops Via Segregation and Integration — Distance Based Comparisons of Child and Adult Regional Relationships
result was seen in rs-fcMRI networks of 90 anatomically defined regions in 7–9 year old children and adults (Supekar et al. 2009). Pairs with higher correlation values in children were closer together (mean 54 mm “DTI wiring distance”) than those showing higher correlation values in adults (mean 63 mm “DTI wiring distance”) (Supekar et al. 2009). Thus, in a variety of matrix-based studies, higher correlations are seen at longer distances in adults than in children, consistent with a developmental trajectory of local segregation and distributed integration.
