This result was mirrored in MPFC seed correlation maps that showed only sparse correlations to the PCC, superior frontal, lateral parietal, and lateral temporal cortex in children, but robust correlations in adults. The level of connectivity in anterior-posterior directions, and in particular the degree to which connectivity with the DMN is present and coherent in children, is a subject of debate and intense investigation (see below).
