The Internalized Stigma of Substance Abuse (ISSA) was adapted from the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (Ritsher et al., 2003). It is designed to measure subjective experience of stigma related to substance abuse, with subscales measuring alienation, stereotype endorsement, perceived discrimination, social withdrawal, and stigma resistance. The scale consists of 29 items rated on a 4-point Likert scale ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (4).
