Of the other dimensions of mental health that were measured, antisocial behavior was most strongly associated with the alcohol outcomes. This is to be expected based on the robust literature associating these variables (Moss and Lynch, 2001; Armstrong and Costello, 2002). It is interesting that anxiety and depression scores were both more strongly associated with alcohol dependence symptoms than with patterns of alcohol use (initiation, frequency/quantity). This may suggest that these students are an important group to target for intervention efforts.
