If we resign ourselves to the idea that the effect sizes for popular endophenotypes are on average negligibly larger than for distal phenotypes, then an important question is how can we proceed to conduct the strongest studies possible, increasing our ability to understand the genetic bases of endophenotypes and associated clinical phenomena?
