Larger ventricular and lobar CSF volumes have been reported consistently in short-term abstinent and active AUD individuals compared to controls (Buhler and Mann, 2011). However, our findings showed smaller CSF spaces in PSU compared to ALC with similar drinking severities or controls, possibly compensating for the larger lobar WM volumes within the physical confines of the skull.
