may involve disrupted functional connectivity between frontotemporal and frontoparietal regions related to beta (and alpha) frequency EEG (Hsiao et al., 2013). These findings highlight that the brain regions implicated by the mRNA expression associated with DSE variant rs2252790 (hippocampus, temporal cortex) are related to beta band activity as well as higher cognitive functions, increasing the biological plausibility of this study’s findings. However, further studies are needed to understand the relationship of the DSE variant rs2252790, mRNA expression in hippocampus and temporal cortex, and beta EEG.
