As a result, seasoned, but cautious, investigators have questioned the adequacy of these solutions (e.g., Verleger et al., 2006; Mathalon et al., 2003). Although the nature and anatomical distribution of the generators of novelty P3 are beyond the scope of this review, the biophysical properties of hypothetical cortical generators within the longitudinal fissure can serve as a heuristic example of the implications of field closure on the scalp-recorded EEG.
