would be expected that twin pairs - who share genes and the familial environment - would exhibit similar rates of self-harm regardless of exposure to EAU, which was not the case. Importantly, however, these analyses did not differentiate between MZ and DZ discordant pairs to examine whether the association between EAU and self-harm depends on the level of genetic similarity, nor did they did take into account other clinical variables (e.g., conduct disorder) which may be influencing this relationship. Therefore, more rigorous tests of the link between EAU and both SA and NSSI were examined among discordant twin pairs when controlling for zygosity and other clinical covariates.
