It has been established that drugs of abuse such as cocaine, amphetamine and morphine impart an experience-dependent structural plasticity that alters dendritic length and complexity in brain areas associated with persistent drug-induced changes [43]–[45], changes which may additionally limit later experience-dependent structural plasticity [46].
