birth cohort data from sons of fathers with AUDs, for example, only 18 of 361 carefully selected, biologically-based, premorbid predictors of alcohol dependence were associated with failure to remit, suggesting remission is subject to social influences even in high-risk samples (Penick et al., 2010). In the current study we examine more definitively whether measures of social context are associated with remission in individuals from families with high risk for alcoholism, and whether social context differs by type of remission. Our aims were to (1) examine AUD status at follow-up among individuals with AUD at baseline who were re-interviewed 5 years later, and (2) examine measures of social context and treatment as a function of AUD status at follow-up.
