The methodological quality of the studies was analyzed according to the Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias [44]. The 6-item tool assesses the quality of the randomization procedure (adequate sequence generation and allocation concealment), the blinding of treatments, the probability of other bias, the probability of selective reporting, and the issue of incomplete data. When the studies were described as open-label studies, the blinding item was considered as non applicable. With this tool, a high score indicates a low risk of bias.
