Additionally, it was shown that DLK1 has a role in stimulating neurogenesis of human and mouse iPSC-derived neural progenitors via modulating Notch and BMP signaling (Surmacz et al., 2012). Using such small molecules to induce differentiation of iPSCs into a specified lineage shows a potent approach to generate specific cell types in order to better understand the biological function and disease processes, as well as to use these cells in drug screening and cell therapy.
