Functional images were preprocessed using an automated pipeline based around SPM 5 (http://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/software/spm5) including realignment, slice-timing correction, spatial normalization to Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) space, reslicing, and smoothing with a 10 mm full-width half-max Gaussian kernel (Scott et al., 2011). Time-series of cerebrospinal fluid and white-matter fluctuations, motion parameters and first derivative of motion parameters were progressively regressed from the time-series data followed by band-pass filtering (0.01-0.1Hz) using in house scripts (Welsh et al., 2010).
