We compared unaffected participants with those diagnosed with severe AUD, defined as having 6 or more of the 11 criteria for AUD diagnosis (DSM-5), to increase the signal-to-noise ratio and mitigate the possibility that PAC measures for unaffected COGA participants share greater similarities with AUD participants than those unaffected with no family history of AUD.
