(SGOL1, DTWD2, NDST4, KCNB2, NR4A2 and DDC) significantly associated with MaxDrinks. Furthermore, these genes/regions were partially confirmed in a family-based analysis of the OZALC sample. However, one limitation of this study is the family sample that we used for the replication has a relatively small sample size compared to the ones used in the meta-analysis. Also, SNP panel from OZALC has limited coverage of the genome. Associations with these markers and gene regions require further replications in other study samples as well as more functional studies before any statement about causality is warranted.
