The M-NRQ, a self-rating scale that measures positive-reinforcement smoking (Positive Reinforcement Scale; PRS) and negative-reinforcement smoking (Negative Reinforcement Scale; NRS), was administered to the chronic smoker sample at baseline. This measure was included in concurrent validation analyses because its scales have been shown to be associated with number of variables relevant to cigarette use, including nicotine dependence (as measured by an earlier version of the FTND).
