PDs. Another NESARC study provided support for the DSM-IV hierarchical model for the PD cluster organization (A, odd/eccentric; B, dramatic/emotional; C, anxious/fearful) in which the 3 lower-order clusters form a higher-order factor (Cox et al., 2012; Jahng et al., 2011), although other exploratory models with 3-factor solutions often do not match the DSM clusters of PDs (Dowson and Berrios, 1991; Blackburn et al., 2005). The presence of high intercorrelations between DSM-IV personality disorders (Grant et al., 2005c; McGlashan et al., 2000; Stuart et al., 1998; Zimmerman et al., 2005) nevertheless suggests that each of these disorders may be alternative manifestations of a single underlying process.
