Chat
When chat is enabled, you can have AI-assisted conversations grounded in your research. The chat assistant automatically retrieves relevant context from your knowledge base to answer questions with citations.
Chat with a KB
Click 💬 Chat with KB in the navigation bar to start a conversation across your entire knowledge base. Ask research questions and the assistant will:
- Search your KB for relevant passages and observations.
- Pull in additional context as needed during the conversation.
- Cite specific papers and passages in its responses.
This is useful for literature review questions, cross-paper synthesis, and exploring connections across your collection.
Chat with a paper
On any paper's detail page, click 💬 Chat with this paper to focus the conversation on a single paper. The assistant draws from:
- The paper's full text and extracted chunks.
- Figures and structured observations.
- Citation context from related papers in the KB.
This is useful for deep-dive questions about methodology, results, or specific claims in a paper.
Citations and references
During a conversation, the assistant cites specific passages from your KB inline in the response. You can click through to read the original source in context.
Chat history
Your conversations are saved automatically. You can:
- Return to previous conversations to continue where you left off.
- Review past answers and the references they cite.
- Start new conversations at any time.
Each chat session maintains its own context, so you can have separate threads for different research questions.
