Comorbid SUD did not contribute to earlier onset of SC. The difference in the means of age of onset of SC in participants with and without SUD was not statistically significant when the t test was used (t=0.853, df=282, p=0.394). In participants with comorbid SC and SUD, subjects were more likely to have the SUD occur before or at the same time as the SC, rather than after onset of SC (χ2=5.657, Yates’ correction=3.850, p=0.050), although this was driven largely by men in this sample.
