had alcohol problems (AOR = 2.37). Those who experienced parental alcohol problems but not childhood or adolescent parental divorce/separation were also more than two times as likely to report lifetime alcohol dependence compared to respondents with neither divorce/separation nor alcohol problems in their parents (AOR = 2.38). Experiencing parental divorce/separation during childhood absent parental history of alcohol problems also remained significantly predictive of offspring lifetime alcohol dependence, increasing the risk of alcohol dependence by about 30% (AOR = 1.33).
