The association between OPRM1 A118G (Asn40Asp, rs1799971) polymorphism and alcohol use disorders was analyzed in a population-based sample consisting of genotyping results from 503 individuals with a DSM-IV-based diagnosis of alcohol dependence or alcohol abuse and their 506 age- and sex-matched controls. No statistically significant associations were observed (Table 2, additive model; data not shown for recessive and dominant models). The prevalence of the 118 G allele was 21.2% among the controls and 20.3% among individuals with alcohol use disorders and the frequencies of AA, AG and GG genotypes were 63.2%, 31.0 and 5.7% among the controls and 64.6, 30.2 and 5.2% among the individuals with alcohol use disorders, respectively.
