Frozen brains were sectioned at the level of the dorsal hippocampus and the subregions CA1 and dentate gyrus were laser-microdissected using a laser capture microscope (P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies, Bernried, Germany). Extracted RNA was quality checked on the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyser, subjected to two rounds of linear amplification and hybridised to Illumina MouseRef-8 v1.0 Expression BeadChips according to the manufacturer’s protocol (see also supplemental methods).
