In addition to testing genetic associations with nicotine dependence, we also asked whether cohort members at higher genetic risk were more reliant on smoking to co pe with stress. Among study members who smoked daily during ages 32-38 years (n=277), those at higher genetic risk relied more heavily on smoking as a coping strategy (B=0.22 [0.11-0.32]).
