Here we report genetic associations of eleven SNPs in GABRA2 with both impulsiveness and the Lifetime Alcohol Problems Score (LAPS), a composite index of problem alcohol use over the life course, and carry out an analysis of the role of impulsiveness as a mediator of the relationship between GABRA2 SNPs and LAPS. The study was carried out on the adult sub-sample of a population-based study of families which had at least one male with DSM-IV AUD diagnosis, or were from a comparable group of control families (Zucker RA, 2000).
