Adolescent male P rats were allowed to binge drink as described previously (McBride, Kimpel, et al., 2014). Briefly, starting at 28 days of age, 11 male P rats were given ad libitum access to food and water, and access to ethanol (15 and 30% ethanol solutions concurrently available) in 3 x 1 h sessions per day for 5 consecutive days/week, while 10 control animals were treated identically except without access to ethanol (Bell et al., 2014; Bell et al., 2011). As reported previously (Bell et al., 2011), this procedure leads to BACs of 80 – 100 mg% and motor impairment, criteria established by National Institute for Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA) for binge-drinking (NIAAA, 2004). Animals were euthanized at 49 days of age, 3 h after the first access period on the 15th day of ethanol drinking. This 3-h time-point was selected in an attempt to maximize the response to alcohol on the expression of genes. All research protocols were approved by the Indiana University School of Medicine Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and are in accordance with the
