The Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC) (MASC; March 1997) is a 39-item self-report scale designed to assess a broad spectrum of anxiety symptoms. Sample items include: “I feel tense or uptight” and “I keep the light on at night.” Internal consistency coefficients in this sample for the seven subscales were: Tense (α = .82), Somatic Symptoms (α = .79), Anxious Coping (α = .68), Perfectionism (α = .55), Humiliation Fears (α = .91), Performance Fears (α = .72), Separation Anxiety (α = .76). The MASC total score is the sum of these scores (ranging from 0 to 117 at 1-point increments). Internal consistency for the total score in this sample was .92.
