Across treatment conditions there was a similar frequency distribution of mean expression of the fly’s 17560 annotated genes (Figure S1D). Within the entire data set, 7984 genes (45%) showed little to no expression [arbitrarily defined as log2(FPKM + 1) < 2], whereas 9576 genes (55%) had robustly detected levels of gene expression [log2(FPKM + 1) ≥ 2]. Thus, adult MB nuclei were actively transcribing roughly 55% of annotated genes in the genome at the time of isolation.
