The incentive salience encoded by the dACC is characteristic of “give me more”, which is not suppressed by the dysfunctional pgACC suppression mechanism59,60. The result is the positive reinforcement of a feeling of arousal and reward towards alcohol encoded by the limbic structures and OFC.
