The Children’s Depression Rating Scale-Revised (CDRS-R), a semi-structured interview, was conducted with adolescents to assess depressive symptoms over the previous 2 weeks. Items are rated on a either a 5- or 7-point scale with more severe symptoms given higher scores. For example: Sleep disturbance is rated on a 5-point scale ranging from (1) No difficulty or occasional difficulty that is situationally explainable, (3) Frequently has mild difficulty with sleep, to (5) Has difficulty with sleep nearly every night. Interviewers were trained for reliability by the PI and a research team member who had received specialized research diagnostic training. Inter-interviewer reliability for total severity scores, established prior to the study onset via a minimum of three concordant interviews, was high (mean α across raters = .98).
