Subjects were assessed in various domains of symptomotolgy to determine clinical status and diagnosis. Briefly, the baseline assessments conducted were the MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) (Sheehan et al., 1998) modules for alcohol abuse/dependence, the Form 90 alcohol use questionnaire (The Project MATCH Group, 1996); the Obsessive–Compulsive Drinking Scale to Measure Alcohol Craving (OCDS; Bohn et al., 1996; Kranzler et al., 1999; Roberts et al., 1999), the Short Index of Problems (SIPs) (Miller et al., 1995); the Medical Outcomes Study (SF-12) (Ware and Kossinski, 1998); the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ9) for depression (Kroenke et al., 2001); and the Profile of Mood States (POMS) (McNair et al., 1971). The Form 90 was re-administered 1 and 6 months after discharge from the facility by telephone and modified to cover all time from the previous interview.
