The discovery sample included 1,409 European-American cases with alcohol dependence (38.3±10.2 years) and 1,518 European-American controls (38.4±10.4 years) and the replication sample included 6,438 European-Australian family subjects with 1,645 alcohol dependent probands. A total of 39,903 subjects of European or African descent from 19 other cohorts with 11 different neuropsychiatric disorders served as contrast groups (Table S11).
