In contrast, rg’s of individual items to other external traits were not all in the same direction (e.g., IQ, BMI). Here, relying merely on sum-score information would be misleading: sum-score rg’s can be small while item-specific rg’s are substantial yet opposite (rg > |.17|; see e.g., BMI, hip and waist circumference).
