Text

There is strong evidence that parental and peer factors are associated with adolescent alcohol consumption and the development of AUDs. In addition to genetic influences, possible environmental mechanisms include reduced supervision, more permissive views on drinking, and social learning (Sher, Grekin, & Williams, 2005). Parents and peers have also been proposed to moderate genetic risk for alcohol consumption via their influence on the restrictiveness of the social environment and exposure to adversity.
