Glycogen granules, generated from polymerization of glucose 6-phosphate by glycogen synthase and the glycogen branching enzyme [41], were increased in the sinusoids of Cyp1b1-ko mice (Figure 5C). However, unlike lipid droplets, glycogen granules were more highly concentrated in the peripheral hepatocytes in the WT mice, where they were unaffected by Cyp1b1-ko deletion (Figure S4A). This change suggests a redirection of fatty acid metabolism in the Cyp1b1-ko mice from triglyceride synthesis to mitochondrial oxidation and glycogenesis.
