UK-GWA study Phase 1: Cases (1,182 male, 796 female; mean age at diagnosis 57 years, SD 6) with pathologically confirmed lung cancer were ascertained through the Genetic Lung Cancer Predisposition Study (GELCAPS)(6). All were British residents and self reported to be of European Ancestry. Individuals from the 1958 Birth cohort served as source of controls(7).
