Deviance and HIV-related sexual risk behavior were assessed within 12-month time frames prior to the interviews. At age 16, 40% of all participants reported theft, violence, blackmail, or substantial damage to property of others. Deviance decreased rapidly to a 12-month prevalence of 11% at age 29. In contrast to all other risk behaviors, HIV-related sexual risk behavior increased between 16 and 29 from 6% to 12%.
