We examined two additional PPARα-sensitive genes in relation to lipid regulation: Pctp (StARD2) and acyl-CoA thioesterase 13 (Acot13/Them2) (Table 2) [55]. Pctp is not only a specific PC transfer protein, but also complexes with Acot13 to enhance mitochondrial thioesterase activity. This local activity prevents entry of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for oxidation (via carnitine/palmitoyltransferase protein). In Cyp1b1-ko mouse liver, their dual suppression should enhance mitochondrial oxidation.
