The significance of the genotypic results must be understood in terms of biological processes involved as well as effect size and number of samples. Sampling variation and and short term fluctuations in the measurement of electrophysiological variables mean that only durations of significant results of greater than 1 year should be given credence. Effect sizes of less than 0.1 when not part of a continuous significant interval greater than 2 years in duration should be discounted; this in particular applies to interpretation of the fine time scale figure. The use of age ranges as illustrated in the coarse time scale figure is an attempt to suppress the most likely false positive results.
