Effect sizes of genotype range from 0.1 to greater than 0.2 in absolute value when statistically significant at a p < 0.009 level, the level established when controlling the false discovery rate at 5%. The larger values are comparable to the effect size noted for significant KCNJ6 SNPs in Kang et al. (2012). The relation between effect size and variance explained is r2 = d2/(d2 + 4) where d is the effect size used here and r2 is the variance explained (Durlak, 2009). This implies that the values of r2 for significant results range from about .25% to 1%.
