Fig. 1 shows the Manhattan plot of the resulting P values. We identified 1,271 approximately independent (pairwise r2 < 0.1) SNPs at genome-wide significance (P < 5×12−8), 995 of which remain if we adopt the stricter significance threshold (P < 1×10−8) proposed in a recent study (Supplementary Table 2, see Online Methods for a description of the clumping algorithm).
